I aslo received a COA on the same date mentioned above. (Applied on 31st of March and biometrics on 1st of April)

But, sadly COS does not confirm anything about rights like you can work or not etc.

The COA does say you can continue to rely on whatever EU rights that you have while the application is being processed, doesn't it? I think this is written in bold letters somewhere in the beginning paragraphs?

"CERTIFICATE OF APPLICATION
This certificate of application confirms receipt of your valid application under the
EU Settlement Scheme. You will receive a decision shortly.
You can continue to rely on any rights you have as an EU citizen, or as the family
member of an EU citizen.
If you have any queries about your application, information about how to contact us can
be found on the Gov.UK website at: https://eu-settled-status-enquiries.service.gov.uk.
If you have sent us your passport or identity document, you will receive it back shortly.
You should not make any travel plans until it is returned to you.

Note for employers
A person who has applied under the EU Settlement Scheme may already have a right to
work in the UK on the basis of EU law.
An EU citizen can demonstrate this with their EU passport or national identity card. A non-
EU citizen can demonstrate their right to work in the UK with a biometric residence
document.
If a non-EU citizen does not have a biometric residence document, you can request
information about their right to work by using the e-form which can be found by following

- You are not right. COA is permission to work while your application is under consideration. Also it's kind of receipt that your application is valid. And finally your employer can check online your right to work by completing the form and providing your application ref number.

Hmm, but I think you are mixing this with BRC COA? For EU settlement COA, it does not confirm right to work unfortunately, I pasted the answer from HO above. I called HO before, they say that no one has right to work with first EEA visa only and if employer will call they will say the same.

But ofc I am not %100 sure

No. If you already have valid BRC or BRP you are already eligible to work. If you do not hold one COA means that you are allowed to work while your application is under consideration. In case of previous applications for BRC COAs have been valid for 6 months. After 6 months the employer had to ask emploees to provide valid residence card. Timescale under Settlement Scheme is not clarified by HO. Let's assume that your COA will be valid (you have right to work) until you gets final decision from HO about your settled/ presettled status.

For some reason, people assume that the new scheme should be an easier way to get confirmation of their rights (right to stay and work), when in fact, it is an application for PERMISSION to stay. This is why we might not get confirmation of our right to work.
This is a transition period and things change. We just don't get it.

- why you are so pessimistic???

So far I can only see benefit from being EU or Non-EU family member as all of us will be provided ILR for 5 years without paying thousands of pounds and sitting an exam Life in the UK. After that you will be eligible to apply for British citizeship.

I didn't have a RC before. My partner applied in February and was granted pre-settled status, so I just had to provide the application number from that.

I just received COA and result today. You can check my timeline update. I already have a BRC way back 2016 valid until 2021 but still under my maiden name that's why I sent my passport so it will be on my married name already. So no more biometric appointment for me. They told via email that I will receive my passport back in a few days after my result. Good luck on yours. 😊
