Got my Residence Document, name is misspelled what to do ?

Post by Emc » Mon May 09, 2011 10:25 pm

Hi all and firstly a big big thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and knowledge on this forum, it really is the most realistic and helpful source of information !
At last i have received my Residence document for five years from EEA2 application. My hubby and i are both thrilled and dreaming of all the nice places we can go for holidays, now that we have our passports back and my status sorted. The only problem is that on the passport page with photo my married name was misspelled by country of issue and then amended on a different page according to the translation of marriage certificate.
EEA FP visa from Ireland to UK -has the correct spelling.
The Irish EEA card -has the correct spelling.
The EEA2 application-has the correct spelling.
The COA from HO has the Wrong Spelling ! But I didn't correct them at the time, since my employer has accepted it as it was.
Now I have received a sticker in my passport with the wrong spelling.
Did anyone have the same problem ? What do i do next? How long will it take to sort out ? Why did i not receive the nice plastic card as well ?
Thank you guys for all the information.
And the best of luck to all those waiting, it will come sooner then later !
Mine was sent for on 02/02/11 and issued on 26/04/11  :P :D

As I understand the spelling on the Residence Card (sticker in the passport) is identical to the spelling on the bio page of your passport, and both are in fact wrong? And somewhere else in your passport is an official correction of the spelling of your name. And the EEA FP is also a sticker in your passport?

To me it seems very unlikely that this will ever cause a problem. As it is all contained within this little booklet called passport it is obvious that all documents mentioned above refer to the same person.

When your passport expires and you get a new one (without mistakes hopefully), then it might be a good idea to have this situation corrected, which essentially means submitting a new EEA2 application.

And all other documents (COA, Irish residence card) you mentioned in your post you don't need anymore.

Thank you for your reply Fysicus, you are right in understanding that my name was misspelled on the bio page of the passport and then officialy corrected on another page. The sticker with RC is same as bio page-misspelled, but EEA FP from British embassy in Ireland, which is a sticker too-is correct spelling. The EEA2 application is with correct name too, since I filled it in myself. My husband is panicing that when we go abroad, for example to france my RC name will be different from our marriage cetificate and booking on the tickets, ext. My job contract is in my correct name as well.
I have phoned the EU section of HO today and the lady on the phone had to check with someone else regarding my querry, but then said that if my EEA FP from British embassy in Dublin was issued in correct name, then my RC must be issued in the same name and ask me to send the passport with RC back and a short letter explaining what I want. She could not give me any time scale, but suggested to write in the letter that my current job is in the correct name, so I will need it amended soon to have it on employement record. So I will be sending the passport back asap and hoping to get it back sooner then later.
