But she can remain in Bristol UK without taking up British citizenship? Eg ILR?

Hey

Please note: ILR is NOT relevant to the EEA route, it's called PR.

If she were to receive PR via the EEA route she would be able to remain in the UK forever without naturalizing, unless she leaves the UK for 2 years (that means she will lose PR).

If she were to become Irish in Northern Ireland she has right to live in the UK, no matter what - she would be almost equal to a British citizen, like me. Haha. Irish people don't need any kind of visa to live in the UK at all (unless the law changes sometime in the future).

Hi Clive, Son now has Irish passport and his babies british passport is in the process stage! Would it be wise to start the renouncification now or wait until his child firmly had his British passport? Thanks again for any advice.

Hi there
Good that he has his passport sorted out! I would probably wait if the kids passport application is dependent on his British citizenship. I'm not sure how it would go! It might be best to get the child's passport before doing anything. There's no basis for that, it's just what I would do. Of course, the child will be eligible for Irish citizenship too.

Recently I heard about a girl from NI who was informed that she needs to attend for a Home Office interview after she applied to renounce. I've never heard of that before. It may be something specific to her personal situation as it seems to be a new thing.

Sorry, I'm not really sure about his situation but waiting a few weeks on the passport won't make such a huge impact!

Hope it arrives soon and he can continue with the renunciation process.

We are in the process of my EEA1 here in Belfast and we will be applying for his EEA2 too soon. So far it's going well!

Good luck!

Cheers Clive! Will wait, as you say "what's a few more weeks"! Bit strange regarding that lady having to be interviewed by HO!! We, however are getting a little nervous about the whole process as a couple of people have both been refused for FP , HO stating that they are culminating domestic rules even though they have followed the SS route to the T. Keep thinking that's it's only a matter of time until they use this excuse to refuse FP for people renouncing also! Wishing you and your partner best if luck with your next phase !

If your son (and you) have carefully considered the renunciation option, I would move ahead with it as soon as possible after the child get his/her British papers. As you said before, Surinder Singh is still an option for the future. I don't know if they can legally refuse renouncees under EU law as it hasn't been tested yet but I would expect that they will try to tighten up.

Might be a good idea to get in there ASAP! It's really hard to say how it all might go!

Yes, it's worrying that's what made us think that perhaps he should do this now even though baby is waiting for Brit passport! It wouldn't be the end of the world if say he never got it as he could fly on his Thai one like his Morher! May just take the risk and do it now! It's been 4 weeks since the paper work was submitted for the passport but they did advise 8 to 12 weeks and I note that the fee has been deducted from my cc!

Hiya
In theory, anyone can sign. However, a lawyer told me that the best would be for a GP to sign. Therefore, the Home Office would find it hard to pick fault with it on the basis of the person being of unsound mind as a medical professional felt otherwise.

Did he get his irish passport yet?

Another question? Will Sons wife and child both being Thai need comprehensive medical insurance when they apply for FP?

Didn't your grandson get a British passport? No need for anything (including FP) for him.

They won't need any comprehensive sickness insurance [CSI] at all. CSI is only needed when they are in country if the EEA national is exercising treaty rights as a self-sufficient person or a student. I would recommend that he finds a job in the UK, not become self-sufficient or a student. This makes it easier. I'm sure he will be considering working anyway.

We didn't have CSI and had absolutely no issues when applying for the FP. I started work the day after he entered the UK and I applied for an EEA1 registration certificate for myself straight after getting a pay slip and letter from my employer. We applied for his EEA2 residence card on October 2nd but haven't even received the COA yet. I've written to the Home Office in Liverpool. No response yet. I have also made a complaint because it should be issued 'immediately' according to the UK regulations.

Good to hear that he's Irish now! The renunciation can take up to 3 months now and the FP normally takes about 2 weeks (could be longer)...consider timescales carefully!

Good luck!

Haha. Great. Then the other child will need a FP. I'm not sure if there would be issues with taking the kid to the UK? His wife might need permission from the kids father. Something to consider.

A COA is a certificate of application which should be issued really quickly after a residence card application form is submitted. I'll be pushing them on this until they get it out to us. Hehe.

One more question before posting off the form tomorrow! RN1 states, if you got your citizenship by decent from parent/grandparent, you should send following:
Their citizenship
Your relationship to them
Is the above necessary? Son was only going to send in a copy of his Irish passport as he does not want to be without it as he wants to travel on it within 6 weeks!

Oh dear. I'm not sure about proving the relationship thing. I was born Irish/British (in Northern Ireland) so I didn't have that. I did send a copy of my Irish passport and a copy of my birth certificate showing that I was born in N. Ireland.

If you have the birth certificate that he sent to get his Irish passport in the first place it might be a good idea to send a copy? Or some other proof of how he got the citizenship? If the person he got Irish citizenship from had an Irish passport you could always send a copy?

I would give more info rather than too little. Don't give them any chance to delay!

Sorry Angie, this one has me stumped :(

Letter that accompanied the certificate stats that renunciation of Brit nationality affects persons status to live in UK, if you live in UK you should contact us ASAP for info on how you are affected and what steps you must take to confirm immigration status? Any advice?

Absolutely not necessary. It can't possibly affect an Irish citizen (or other Europeans). Ignore it!

That was really quick indeed!

Now they can get his wife over ASAP. If you have any questions just ask!
