Hi
I will be applying for a student visa and I have a problem. I had applied for a tourist visa for the US in 2009 and got rejected. The reason was 'not strong enough ties to make me return to the home country.' However, they didn't put any seal or anything on my passport. They just gave me a page explaining the reason - which I have lost.
My question is, should I mention this in my UK application form? Since I don't have any documents, how will I proceed? Will the UK embassy check with the US embassy?
Any help would be much appreciated. Very worried here.
Thanks

Each visa application for the UK is dealt with on its own merits, but an entry clearance officer may wish to know why another country refused you a visa.
Failure to mention it (
question 6.3) may lead to a
refusal due to
deception, resulting in an automatic
ban.

Thank you vinny for the reply.
Thing is US embassy just handed me a piece of paper explaining the point 'lack of strong ties'. Unfortunately, I have lost that paper since its been so long. What do I do if/when UK embassy asks for refusal documents? Lastly, will this refusal have any adverse effects on my UK application?

I think that declaring it shouldn't aversely affect your application.

That sounds like good news. Thanks vinny. One thing though, the fact that I have lost my US rejection papers - what shall I do about that? Will they reject my application if I can't produce those papers? It was back in 2009 and I never thought I would need the papers again. Please advise.

The important thing is just to tell the truth. If you've lost the refusal reference, etc., then just say so.

I was denied a US tourist visa due to the same reason but the UKBA approved my application for a student visa when I applied about a year later. I guess you should just answer the questions asked as honestly as you can.

That's great! Did you mention that you got rejected for US tourist visa in your UK application form? Did they ask you to provide any documents? Thanks so much for your input mate!

In my out of country application, there were questions pertaining to whether I had applied for another visa in another country and the result. I simply answered it to the best of my knowledge. I didnt attach anything in my application pack when I sent it and they thankfully granted my visa. Hope this helps. Good luck!
