Made redundant after getting Tier 2 Visa

Post by krisy30 » Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:47 pm

I know of a friend who needs help. Please advice.

He has a Tier 2 (General) visa from March 2013 till 2016. But recently his boss have made him redundant as it was a small company and his boss did not have enough projects to run the company. The company is closing down.

He has been applying for other jobs and have been getting good responses expect that every company wants contract worker and not willing to sponsor.
Could someone (anyone) give advice how to go about getting another company to sponsor him? He is a design engineer from aerospace industry with good references from his previous employers.

A few questions running in our heads:

How long does he have before he needs to deport from the last date of his notice period from his boss? Please give reference to the document related to this as I am not able to find it.

Anyone have any leads for other ways of staying in UK?

Anyone have any leads with companies or agents that might be willing to sponsor?

Anyone have any leads to jobs in US?

Please help.

In advance, thank you for your kind suggests and advises.

hello krissy, sorry to hear that.

see there are companies who can charge huge amount of money to sponsor again, I still do not understand why they charge. when you have a valid visa, its just a transfer to other company and needs to updated to the UKBA. on any given day only nominal amount is acceptable and simple equation is if they genuinely do it, they should not charge money.

As your friend is already in UK, minimum time is 2-4 weeks, if you find the right person to do things because they do not have to do the RMLT because they would be already doing it and they did not find anyone and they are ready to sponsor.

coming to US market, need to wait till the next H1B visa slots get opened. I guess even that is also tough. Too many skilled resources over there.

Hi pswtotier2 - thank you for your idea. We checked it out.

Hi tier2user - thank you for your reply. After checking, we found out a company that charge about £11k to be the umbrella company. Yes! I did put a 'K' there.

As you said, it should not cost too much as the visa is already in hand with validity. Therefore, the procedure for change of company name should be easier and cheaper.

We are now at the verge of giving up.

US is also tough to enter.

Hello Krissy30, all the best and good luck to your friend

You did not give up, you explored options and made a good decision. As your friend has got experience it should fetch a job elsewhere.

Cheers..!!

If your visa has to be transferred then your new company will need to apply for a cos as well. But this shouldn't be an issue if a company has a cos already and are willing to sponsor you.

Good luck.
