Vetting Screening as Volunteer

Hi All,

I have been working as a voIunteer for a small business (Off Licence shop) in my town, London. I have applied for a security job who asked me to complete my vetting screening. I have gave my previous employer reference where i was working as a volunteer for 6 years. The company has asked me if i was working cash in hand but i was not getting paid. My previous employer is happy to approved my employment vetting reference as a volunteer worker as well.

My question is that, Can i use my votunteer job gap to complete the company vetting/screening or not?
