Hello,
Subject: Seek clarification on English language - for my application for naturalisation as a British Citizen
I reside in the U.K. and will be applying for naturalisation shortly.
I got my ILR (indefinite leave to remain) in Jun 2013. When I had applied for my ILR, I did not taken any English language test. However, I had provided my successful 'life in UK' test then.
Please note I took my B1 English test 6 months ago and passed the same. I have a certificate to prove this.
Please refer to the 7 points below. This is what I intend to input in my application form for 'English language'. I needed the help of some senior people (moderators) here and shall be very thankful for your inputs.
1. Do you have a previous visa, entry clearance or leave to remain where you had to prove your knowledge
of English? = YES
2. Tell us the previous visa, entry clearance or leave to remain you had = INDEFINITE LEAVE TO REMAIN
3. Did you meet the knowledge of English requirement as part of an indefinite leave application made on or after 28 October 2013? = NO
4. Do you have a degree that was taught in English? = NO
5. Have you passed an approved English language test? = YES
6. Did the test assess your speaking and listening skills at a level equivalent to CEFR B1 or higher? = YES
7. How did you get your result? = CERTIFICATE
My questions are;
For point 1:
Should I put a "Yes" or a "No"
In June 2013, I did not taken any English exam. I do not remember clearly but I think in Jun 2013, only the 'life in UK test' was adequate to prove English language requirements. If I remember, I had also submitted a letter from my University in India to state that my Bachelors degree was taught in English. So, I proved my knowledge of English in Jun 2013 either with 'life in UK' or both 'life in UK' and the letter from my University in India. So is "YES" the correct answer.
For point 3:
Since I applied for my ILR in June 2013, I think my answer should be 'NO' as this question is about meeting English language requirements on or after Oct 2013. Is 'NO' the correct answer?
For point 4:
My university provided a letter to state that my degree was taught in English. When I first came to U.K. under HSMP in end 2008, this letter alone was enough to prove my English competency. So the answer to
"Do you have a degree that was taught in English?" should be a YES. But if I input YES, at the document stage it asks me to provide 'NARIC letter" that my degree in India meet or exceeds a UK bachelors degree.
As I have a B1 test taken a few months ago, I intend to answer with a "NO" to point 4, as this asks me to upload my B1 test certificate...which I have and can produce. So, is it fine to put a "NO" to point 4.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Regards
Raj
