Re enter the UK with the Certificate of Application?

Re enter the UK with the Certificate of Application?

Hi all,
I am wondering if any Non EU visa nationals tried to re enter the UK with just the certificate of application and no valid UK visa as thier Residence Card application is still under consideration accompanied with their EU spouses who working and resident in the UK.
I would appreciate anyone who experienced or heard about such situation to reply.
