Enter UK with expiring passport of non-EU nationality

Post by eduardp » Sun Jan 19, 2025 1:16 am

Hi,

I've got the eVisa with the linked BRP and a Russian passport that expires in 6 months. I'm going to travel outside of the UK and return in March. Does anyone know if I will be able to enter the UK at that moment when my passport will be valid for the last 3 months? I also have the second passport of Republic of Moldova that is not expiring soon, but it's not linked to my eVisa. If possible, could I use my Moldovan passport instead of Russian one when entering the UK, even if it's not linked to my eVisa (I won't be able to link it before departure)?

Thank you!

You must have a valid passport to enter the UK. It should be valid for the whole of your stay.
There is no minimum validity requirements.
Not a qualified immigration adviser. Use links and references given to gain confirmation and/or extra information.

As I'm not a standard visitor, but a resident with the eVisa expiring in the mid of 2027, doesn't this rule mean my passport should be valid until then to cover my whole stay in the UK?

In simple English, your passport is valid for you to re-enter the UK, provided it's still valid to the last day!
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Sorry, I didn't get your last point. Let me summarize my case:

1. My eVisa (Skilled Worker) expires in September 2027
2. My Russian passport expires in July 2025
3. I'm going to re-enter UK with my passport in March 2025

As the validity of my Russian passport doesn't fully cover the validity of my eVisa, should I expect any problems at the UK border?

Thank you.

No, that's not an issue at the UK border.
