Entering Dublin via Belfast and Need Long-term Visa Stamped

Post by susanworth12 » Tue Sep 13, 2022 5:12 pm

Hello,
I am currently living in the UK (as a canadian), and I will be moving to Dublin on a working-holiday visa. I need to have my visa stamped on arrival to Dublin, but am having an *extremely* difficult time getting a hold of anyone at the immigration office (Burgh's Quay) to make an appointment to get the stamp.

Is it possible to walk in to Burgh's Quay without an appointment, just to receive the stamp? If not, is there any other way to find an immigration officer to stamp it?

Thank you.

yea, burgh quay is tough to reach
and not sure if they routinely do it, as the passport isn't touched when you apply for residence permits
maybe try one of the garda stations outside co. Dublin? or even send an email to the garda station network, as they might reply quicker

Why do you need your passport to be stamped? I don’t think there is any requirement from INIS.

If you really need an entry stamp for whatever reason, the best way is a quick day trip. For example, a same-day round trip between Dublin and London Stansted on 28 Sept costs only 18 euro in total.

Hi - my understanding is that I need an entry stamp for the working holiday visa. Technically the visa will be marked with the date I am due to arrive, but I believe I need to be registered asap, which is why I have been trying to get in touch with the immigration office. I was considering a day trip, but was hoping it wouldn't come to that! I also wasn't sure if you have to pass through immigration at the airport if you are flying from London - Dublin? Was also wondering if there might be an officer at the boat port who could potentially stamp it? :|

Thanks for your response - I will try to call around to a few Garda stations today to ask what to do. Since I can't get through to burgh quay to get an appointment either, I guess I will have to get something sorted outside of Dublin!

Dublin airport - yes you will always go through immigration (even if you fly local).

Ferry ports - no. Even though you pass through immigration, they are not always manned. And even when they are manned, they don’t usually have those stamps. They just carry out visual checks.

By the way, you can contact bmu@justice.ie
This email is managed by border officers in the Dublin airport. They are super fast to reply. You can check with them whether you really need this stamp and if necessary where you can obtain one.

Great - thank you so much for this! Will get in touch with them now. While I'm at it, do you have any idea of the GNIB process? Since I can't get through to the Burgh office (have now called 160 times today with no answer), I am trying to figure out how to register as well. I will not have a permanent address for a month or two as I will be staying with family/friends (& entering on a working/holiday visa), and while I will eventually be living in Dublin, I do have relatives who live in another county who I will be staying with. Just wondering if I can apply outside of Dublin & provide their address? I can post this in another thread if need be, just thought I would ask!

Thanks again.

if you apply outside of Dublin (and Co. Dublin), you go to a local Garda station, not Burgh Quay office
there's usually a few designates stations per county that is dealing with immigration

You can find details here https://www.irishimmigration.ie/registe ... irst-time/

Note that the officer may want to see proof of address. So you need to either get a tenancy agreement with your name on it, or get a utility bill or bank statement with your name and address.

If you are going to live outside of Dublin for the next two months, you should register with the local Garda station. Once you move to Dublin, you just need send an email with proof of new address to immigrationsupport@justice.ie.
