Entering US on Irish passport

Post by Fsylz » Wed Jul 25, 2007 11:21 am

Hi all and I'm new.
My husband (a US citizen) and I live in Ireland and we would like to return to the US every 3 or 4 months for 2 or 3 months each time. I know that they stamp me for three months every time I enter but is there any restrictions to how long i stay each time e.g. say I went twice each year for 3 months - would this be a problem? This would be purely vacation time for us with my husband's family.
Thanks
Fiona

They don't actually stamp you for 3 months, you can stay up to 90 days on the Visa Waiver Program. Anything longer than that and you overstay. What you plan to do is theoretically possible, but the decision is up to the immigration officer. I would suggest you bring along proof of your ties to Ireland (e.g. home ownership) and of financial independence. If you are retired, or a person of independent means, you may consider applying for a tourist visa, which would allow you to stay up to six months. However, even with a tourist visa I would still recommend to bring the above evidence with you when you travel.

With Irish Citizen's reputation with US Immigration department, you better prepared for the worst and have maximum supporting documents as possible to prove that you will go back after your visit. It is not personal, just a fact...

Cheers...

Thanks for that. One more quesiton for ya. The other option we're considering is moving back altogether which means my husband applying for my green card from here. Does anyone know how long it is taking for Dublin embassy to process the I130?

don't know about Dublin but I *think*it's about 6 months from London. You could always enquire at the Embassy about approximate timelines.

How long has your husband lived in Ireland? Have you thought about whether you'd like him to get his Irish citizenship before moving back to the US? (although processing times are long).
