ESTA on new dual passport

Post by the_doctor46 » Fri Apr 05, 2024 11:22 pm

Hi there I am a dual national and applied for an ESTA using my acquired citizenship as I plan on using that passport to travel to the US, as per instruction. In the application I disclosed my birth citizenship too, of course.

At the time of ESTA application I was renewing my birth nationality passport, so in the section where they ask about passports from other nationalities, I could only enter the expired birth citizenship passport's number (NOT the one I plan on using to travel). The ESTA instructions say to disclose passports also if they're expired, so I did that. I then submitted the application.

The embassy then told me after a couple of days that my passport was ready, and later on I also got my ESTA approved, with the expired passport number. So now I'm stressing out as maybe the new passport was already ready at the time of ESTA application without me knowing (I still haven't picked it up, so don't know the issue date), and US immigration may see this as a problem?

Will this be a problem? At the time of ESTA application I didn't know my new passport was ready, so I wasn't "holding it" yet.

Both nationalities are ESTA eligible, by the way.

I wouldn't think too much about it. You disclosed both nationalities and you indicated what passport you want to travel with. I'd say you should be grand.

While having idea of your concern about how TSA/USA immigration could be, it shouldn't be a problem that when asked your simple explanation won't trump.
