Does the EU spouse have to be at the visa appointment?

Post by cyaneidae » Tue May 31, 2022 4:02 pm

Hello,

Sincere apologies if this has been asked recently, I can't seem to find any relevant posts.

I'm German living in the UK, my husband is Jamaican and lives with me. He needs a new Schengen visa, as his most recent one has expired.

Do I need to accompany him to the appointment at the visa centre? Or will it be enough for him to take my passport and all the other documents and go alone?

Thanks in advance.

I believe that only the visa applicant needs to attend the appointment.
The visa is for "third country" citizens and not connected to EU status of spouse.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

If the person is applying for a visa as a family member of EU citizen, it is connected to other person's EU status I'd say, as they ask for less documents on the basis of them traveling with EU citizen.
But I think only the applicant should go for an appointment indeed.

Thank you both. Yes, the visa process is simplified for EU/EEA family members.
