You are a UK / EU citizen.
You will be travelling to another EU state that is not your own.
This means you will exercise your rights as defined in article 2004/38/EC.
Which means your family members can travel with you and enjoy the same freedoms.
Which also means that they get to benefit from a highly simplified, and accelerated visa procedure.
Documents and the procedure is explained here:
http://www.vfsglobal.com/germany/uk/EEA ... ember.html
Length of visa depends on the embassy, the nationality of the applicants, how often you travel etc. Germany is likely to give you a 90 day visa but it can be given just for the duration of your stay. France might to differently, that is true. But you never know.
Visa is issues free of charge.
