Evaluating the PRocessing of PR File

Post by ravisharma » Sat Dec 10, 2005 5:34 am

Someone has told me that Authorised Immigration Lawyers can seek the processing status of their client by knowing the remarks made by the visa officer on their PR file time to time. Thus they can evaluate of processing time remaining for the finalazation. Is this true? Moderators Please help.

Citizenship & Immigration Canada use the Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System (CAIPS) in dealing with overseas visa applications. AFAIK an applicant (where they do not reside in Canada) can authorise persons with the following criteria to obtain their CAIPS notes:

1. Those resident in Canada and are a

2. A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

CAIPS notes are most useful in informing an applicant of the reason/s for interview such that they can address any facts the visa officer has raised for review. They also provide a brought forward date (BFD) which is when the visa officer has penned your file for review unless something (e.g. IELTS result) is received prior to that. CAIPS notes are in code form some of which is hard to decipher. This is where an attorney or consultant would be useful. IMHO CAIPS notes are a useful tool to have but volume of applications received at a particular post are more of an influencing factor to final timeline since these volumes decide when your file will be 1st looked at.

Few things to know about CAIPS before applying.
1.If you apply request for nstructions/booklet to decipher codes.
2.It will give general information like when it was recd, who all are applicant(dependents)mailing address etc.Generally all the info which you have put in the application. But dont think that visa officer has given you points in various selection factors. This is done only during interview or your interview is waived.
3.Apply for CAIPS only if there is considerable delay in processing time.Applying is not a problem it just costs CAD$ but you wont acheive anything.
4.Think of applying for CAIPS if you have been called for interview. At this stage you will come to know what is the reason for calling for interview.
5.Need not waste money by paying to attorney. Its simpler than learning alphabets.
