Excessive Absences final year

Post by andreatutto » Fri Nov 17, 2023 5:08 pm

Hi,
I am Italian applying for British citizenship. I have been living in
England since 1994 and I meet all requirements for naturalization,
but in the last year I have been away for 98 days, mostly for work.

My absences would drop below 90 by mid January 2024, but I would prefer not
to wait until then to submit my application because I need to travel before
that for work.
Mainly, I travel abroad for work for the following reasons: overlooking
restoration work made for us by overseas colleagues, viewing instruments,
attending fairs.
I have been self employed as a Violin Maker since shortly after my arrival
in UK in 1994.
I was also employed from 7/2011 to 10/2020 with a violin dealer
and in 2019 I incorporated my business in a Ltd company of which I’m an
employed director.
I live with my English partner and we had 4 children: 1994, twins1998 and
the last one in 2000. All 4 children born in England and living here.
With my partner we own our family home in England since 1998.
I have my pension with the Government pension scheme Nest.

Could you help me to understand which documents I should include in my
application to apply for a discretion for excess absences in the last year?
( even if under 100 days a discretion seems to be granted anyway ).

Would you anyway recommend I don't travel until January 15th and present my
application then, when my absences will have dropped below 90?

Thanks,
Andrea

If you can’t wait then suggest you summarise everything in a covering note and submit with your other documents. You are within discretion as you said. I don’t believe you need additional documents to support your explanations. It’s not really excessive absences.
