Query Regarding Document Upload for Indian Passport Surrender Certificate Application

Post by SK976 » Sat Nov 29, 2025 3:50 pm

Hi all,

I have completed, submitted, and downloaded the application form online for the Indian passport surrender certificate. I have followed all instructions and am prepared to attend my appointment at VFS Edinburgh on 01/12/2025, bringing both originals and copies of all required documents.
Could someone please confirm whether it is mandatory to upload all supporting documents, including photograph and signature, online? I have not uploaded these documents, as upon submitting my application form, I received a notification with my application number stating that uploading is optional.
Would anyone be able to kindly reconfirm this information?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi all,

After doing some online research, I found that quite a few people in similar circumstances reported being required by VFS to upload their documents, even though the website states it is optional. Many ended up having to pay VFS to upload the documents. To avoid encountering the same issue, I have decided to upload all the necessary documents online myself. I hope sharing this helps others who might be facing the same situation.
- cheers

experience with the VFS Edinburgh appointment

Post by SK976 » Mon Dec 01, 2025 5:31 pm

Here’s a summary of my experience with the VFS Edinburgh appointment for the Indian passport surrender certificate application:
Date: 01/12/2025
Arrived at the VFS centre : 11:30
My appointment slot :12:00 to 12:15
Received token number(28) : 11:40 (Token 17 was in-progress - 11 people ahead of me)
My token was finally called at : 14:05 (so do be prepared to wait at least one or two hours)
Document submission and verification completed: 14:10 (5 minutes)
but I then had to wait again to make the payment at another counter
Payment completed at: 14:27
exiting the centre by 14:29.

Hi, can I ask one question please, did you upload self attested copies online or is it not required to upload the self attested copies?

Thanks, your response will help as my appointment is tomorrow 😊
