expired passport

Post by tammi » Tue Aug 14, 2007 4:42 pm

Hi,

please does anyone have an answer to this

passport at the homeoffice -> about to applly for visa to canada as a skilled worker -> photocopy of passport shows expired last yr -> the application form asks for expiry date of passport.

Question -> does it matter if I put and expired date on the passport or would it affect my application (lead to rejection)

Thank you

Note that, an expired passport is no longer valid for travel unless attached to a new one. For immigrational purposes, your passport is invalid and I will advise you to obtain a new one before applying for your Skilled Worker application (or whatever category) since this can bite you later on in the future if detected.

On another note, the Home Office would not issue a resident permit (or any leave to remain) in an expired passport. Expect a letter very soon from them (HO) to submit a new passport for issuance of your permit when a decision is made.

Be blessed.

Thank you jes2jes,

The problem is that my passport is still at the home office -> awaiting decision. This expired since I submitted my application.

Is this going to affect my application if I put the expired date on my form. Certainly, if my application is accepted, I will be happy to withdraw my application at the homeoffice, have my passport return and renew or apply for a new passport for travel.

Meanwhile, as the HO is taking their time with making a decision, what is the implications of putting the expired date on my passport. How exactly will this affect my application.

thanks

Your passport is at the UK home office?? for what reason??
And now you want to apply to canada for a hs visa refering to an expired passport. You cant use an expired passport to apply for a canadian visa
In any case, this makes no sense, please apply for a new passport

Now these are the steps you want to take for your current position:
1. Apply for a new passport since you would definitely need it for your extension when it is approved by the HO in the first place. HO as I said earlier would not place a visa in an expired passport.

2. Do not apply for any CND immigration visa until you have a valid passport number since your application would be rejected at the screening stage before it is assigned a file number. You need a valid passport to make this application and not the other way round so please pay attention.

3. Do not ever withdraw your application at the HO when your application is accepted by CIC. Acceptance is not approval and you would have yourself to blame. Your application can be rejected anytime during the process if it does not meet the set criteria or you fail some of the test (medical, security, education etc) along the way so chill out now.

Let me know which category under which you are going to apply.
Summary: Get a new passport since you need it for your UK immigration stamp and also your CND application. Secondly, never withraw the UK application.
Bye.

.

Note that most countries have a rule very similar to:

"Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days beyond the date that a visa would be issued." Sometimes its 60 or 30 days (maybe).

No country accepts an expired passport for travel, and I am quite certain there is no country that would attach a visa to an expired passport.

You began the topic by indicating your passport expired in 2006, eight or more months ago.

I cannot imagine that you have not applied for a new one in this time. Would you mind explaining your reasons for not doing so ..?

AFTER you get yourself hence to your consulate/embassy and get your application in for a renewal. You can do almost nothing without a renewed passport at this time, so don't wait even another minute.

I'm very serious: Do It NOW. You need it immediately and your situation can become VERY complex VERY fast if your are in-country with a passport that wasn't valid at all for this entire year.
