Expiring Passport

Post by Wanderer » Sun Mar 02, 2008 4:19 pm

Can someone advice us if we are gonna have problems with this scenario?;

GF's Russian passport expires 30/12/2008, her current student visa expires 31/10/2008.

We want to apply for IGS or whatever it will be called but we are wondering if we are going to be in a pickle with expiring passports and not time to apply.

Russian embassy says it will take three months for a new passport in UK and they say u should only apply six months before it expires.

The times slot together but if there's an issue we might have a problem.

Anyone any caveats?

As far as I know there's no minimum period of passport validity required when applying for leave to remain in-country.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Cheers Dawie.

And when it does expire does she need to transfer the visa from one to the other or is ok to carry two passports around?

It is perfectly fine to travel with your current leave to remain in an expired passport along with your new passport. No need to transfer the visa unless you want to line the pockets of the Home Office!

No way - they've had enough money off us and will get more! I was gonna knock the visa transfer money off her Topshop budget....
