Extension of stay for 2-3 months only

I am a British national overseas passport holder without any other citizenship living in U.K as a student. My student visa expire on 30 November 2009.
Following the Royal Accent of immigration bill 2009 ,that will be implemented from January 2010, I am eligible under new regulation to claim my citizenship rights as British Citizen.
I need advise how can i extent my current stay in order to apply for my citizenship rights in the month of January 2010.
I also need advise for my dependent spouse who is not a BN(0) passport and his stay expire on 30 November 2009.
