Failed final exam on stamp 2. Is there a grace period for repeating exams?

My partner is Brazilian and is in the process of renewing her stamp 2 visa. She applied before her IRP expired and has an OREG number.

Her IRP is now expired and she's still waiting for the renewal. As you know processing times are slow. But we expect it to be processed some time this week or next week.

She just got news that she failed the English exam. We are expecting immigration to ask for this document soon as it wasn't included in the application. (She had to apply before the expiry of the IRP, and her school year hadn't finished yet)

Anyway, she can repeat the exam according to the examining body (TIE: Test of interactive English)

But does the government give you a chance to repeat the exam? Some time extension? Or do you need to get the hell out of the country now?

If you have been unable to sit exams because of circumstances beyond your control, such as accident or illness supported by medical evidence, you may be able to extend your permission for four months to allow you to take the exams.

If you can demonstrate that your exams results were sufficiently close to the pass mark or you passed most of your other modules we will also consider your case. We won’t extend permission to retake a full year’s tuition.

In short - possibly, but not guaranteed. If no extenstion, then yes, she has to leave the country.
