Fiancée visa

Hi i just have a general question concerning my fiancee and her application/settlement/fiancee visa.okay she had her interview yesterday.10/08/06,and i spoke to her and then i spoke to the E.C.O. who is a really nice chap. Anyway when i spoke to him he advised me that he needed me to go to my local council (i am in uk and she is her country as she had to go back to apply for fiancee visa) as he needed me to fax him a letter from the council stating that it is okay for her to come and live with me in my one bedroomed flat. I spoke to the council about this and explained that the E.C.O. has my original secure tenancy agreement which states that the number of people allowed to live in my flat altogether is 3 and as i live on my own until she comes back they didnt understand why he needs a letter faxing over to him to state that its okay for her to come and live with me in my flat when it says on the secure tenancy agreement that 3 people are permitted to live in my one bedroomed flat,hence the council are not going to write a letter saying that they give permission for my fiancee to live here as it clearly states that 3 people are allowed to. Any advise would be welcome as i do not know how to overcome this problem

It sounds like you are dealing with "jobs worth" at your local council. And the ECO is probably covering his backside. If you need the letter then simple go over the top of the original person you spoke to at the council and just climb up the ladder until someone gives you the letter, but don’t let them deter you at the first hurdle...

Yes, contact one of your local Councillors .... they will have Advice Bureaux.

Your flat is a Council flat?

But I have to say, as regards those living in rented property, it is really a requirement that a letter is obtained from the landlord or agent to confirm they have no objection to the visa applicant living in the place. Had your "evidence folder" included that you would not be facing this delay now.

Hello John and thank you for your reply,yes it is a council flat on a secure tenancy agreement,where does it say in the rules that i need written permission from the council to have my fiancee living with me?; as it actually states on my tenancy agreement that the number of people permitted by law to live in my flat is 3 people? Please help as i need to find where it states this so i can point this out to council as i have an appointment with a housing officer on wednesday at 10am,thank you for your help
