Last year continuous residency

Post by ch123 » Sat Jul 13, 2024 7:07 pm

Hi folks,

It’s a silly question but wanted to get clarity regarding the 70 days we’re allowed to stay outside the State in the last year prior to making an application for naturalisation. Is the 70 days out of a total of 365 days or 70 days out of 183 days?

A friend of mine said it’s out of 183 days but I don’t see that anywhere on the INIS website.

looking forward to some clarity on this.

Thanks

It’s 70 in 365. Why would your friend think 183/6 months was the reference period?

I thought so too. It didn’t make sense plus I failed to find any relevant reference for it. Thank you for clarifying that for me.

Final Year of Residency

Post by ch123 » Thu Sep 26, 2024 8:21 pm

Hi,

Has anyone here been in a similar situation where they stayed outside Ireland for more than 70 days in their final year prior to making application for naturalisation? Were you asked to provide explanations or face any issues with your application? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice on how strict this rule is.

I am due to apply next year but I may have to be abroad for more than 70 days (however still under 100 days) for family reasons.

Thanks
