Financial requirement for FLR(M) self-employed

Post by Scar8993 » Tue Mar 22, 2022 9:06 am

Hi All

By the time I submit my spouse visa application I believe I will need to provide the latest tax return 21/22 as I am now self employed.

For the 21/22 tax year I was salaried/employed for the first 6 months and then worked self-employed for the remaining 6 months. In total for that year, between the two jobs, I earned much more than the £18,600 requirement for that year.

I registered as self employed 3 years ago, but only worked for a few months for myself before being offered, and taking, salaried employment. I have been salaried/employed until 6 months ago when I went back to self employment.

My question is:
To rely on myself to meet the £18,600 financial limit for the visa, is there a requirement to be trading for more than 12 months self employed, and if so do I qualify for this considering I used to work for myself 3 years ago? By the time I apply for my visa I will have been trading for 8 months only since I left salaried employment.

My partner (UK citizen) earns £12,000 per year salaried/employed so is short of being able meet the requirement on her own.

I’m worried sick now I should never have gone self-employed, really appreciate any guidance!

Just to clarify, as I know the 21/22 tax year hasn’t yet ended, I “will” have earned more than the required limit for that tax year.

Also one other thing to clarify, this is my second spouse visa application on a 5 year route.
