Finding out about someone's visa status

I am expecting a baby and the father from what I can understand does not have a valid visa and I wondered if there was a way of finding out what his status is. I am no longer with him but it is worrying me as I would like to know what is going on.

If you suspect someone is in the UK illegally you can report their details to your nearest UKBA office, or to the police. But UKBA won't give you any information.
Short of asking, and being given an honest answer by, the person himself, you have no means of obtaining the answer you say you need.
