First British Passport for a Child Born Overseas

Post by JamesNs » Tue Nov 26, 2024 7:08 pm

I would like to share my experience applying for a British passport for my child, who was born overseas.

I had naturalized as a British citizen before my child’s birth, which automatically made my child a British citizen by birth.
Although I reside in the UK, the mother and child live overseas, where my child was born. Since the birth occurred abroad, I was unable to use the online application system and had to follow the process for applying from outside the UK.

Application Process:

I downloaded the application form from the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ation-form, and completed the relevant sections.

Supporting Documents:

Father (myself):
• Colour copies of all pages of my valid passport(s), both British and non-British.
• Poll cards
• Letters from the bank
• Letter from the council
• HMRC letters
• Colour copies of my Naturalization certificate
Mother:
• Colour copies of all pages of her passport(s)
• ID cards
• Marriage certificate
• Recent photographs
• Gazette notice for name change
• Maternal and Child Health Record book (copy)
• Copy of scan reports
Child:
• Completed application form
• Payment form
• Birth and registration certificate
• Endorsed passport photographs (countersigned)

Additional Documents:
• Evidence that both parents were together at the time of conception
• Evidence of communication
• Evidence of support to my wife from me
• Photos of the child with both parents
• Photos of showing Child's growth over time
• Wedding photos
• Travel tickets

Timeline:
• Application submitted: 24-09-2024
• Interview date: 13-11-2024 (know dates, spell names, hospital of birth / address, doctors name, etc.)
https://www.immigrationboards.com/passp ... t64893.html

• Passport printed: 19-11-2024
• Passport received at VAC office overseas: 26-11-2024

I submitted the application from the UK, but the decision and my supporting documents were sent to the VAC office overseas. Which is why I provided colour copies of the passports and naturalisation certificates instead of the original documents. Please follow up with calls at least every week or two to HMPO on the status

Thank you for sharing your experience, were all these documents requested? Or what they have asked for exactly?
