First Child Passport from abroad for child with 2nd wife

Post by fj189 » Thu Nov 28, 2024 4:49 pm

British father with two wives, one in the UK and the other lives overseas. Children were born after the father gained citizenship. so, children are British citizens by default.

to apply for a British passport for children:

1—The marriage with the second wife should be mentioned, and the marriage certificate should be submitted with the application for the passport for children, or Not. Considering that the second marriage is not recognized unless it is done after divorcing the first wife. OR it should not be mentioned! does it add any value to provide proof of second marriage.

2 - to save time and remove doubts of the case worker, is it advisable to get the DNA test done voluntarily and have results submitted with the application? OR should wait till the case worker asks for further evidence

Appreciate your help.

thanks,

Marriage certificate is not required.
There's no requirement to mention or prove your marriage(s) as part of the application.
Children are British because you were British at the time of birth. One British parent is sufficient for children to be British.
HMPO can ask for additional document if they wish.

thank you alterhase58. appreciate your advice.

one reason for providing a marriage certificate could be to prove that the mother at the time of childbirth was not married to someone else. ? can we establish by some other means too?

on birth certificate father's name is there.

DNA test, has also been ordered already considering it can save time. After placing the order and paying half fee, someone advised not to provide it at first instance. it is sent when asked by HMPO, hence now a bit confused if should attached the results to the case or wait till asked.

A DNA test is not necessary so unsure why you chose to roder it. Just submit the necessary documents as advised.
