First timer, looking at advice for successful application

Post by unileeds » Mon May 07, 2007 9:18 pm

Hi everyone, firstly this is a great forum, and ive spent 3 days reading through it. And finally have some sort of information to go ahead and think about an application!!!
Right, like with everyone I have a a few complications, and some 'stupid' questions. So bear with me.

I came here for my MSc from Univ f leeds and was here from Sept2004-Dec2005. Then I got a job with the Univ of xxx and came here in March 2006 on a Work permit (3yr workpermit ona 3 yr project with Univ of xxx). Now its been over a year and I think I'd like to be independent of a Work permit and shift to an HSMP. Here are my application questions.

1. Age under 27: 20 points.
I qualify. what proof do I need to provide. I have a full British Driving Licence. And an Indian passport. Do I need a Birth Certificate or will my British Driving Licence Suffice??
Should I also give a notarised version of my passport details page.

2. Qualifications 35 scored
MSc from Leeds and now pursuing part time Phd from Univ of XXX. Bachelors from Mumbai University , Bachelor of Engineering from Mumbai Univ.
Now I have a degree from Univ of Mumbai and Leeds Uni. Do i need to get my graduation (mumbai univ) degree evaluated from Naric. If yes, does that also take care of my english language requirements.

Because I dont have IELTS or Toefl. Approaching Mumbai Unov for a English Language certificate is gonna be full of red tape. Any alternatives or work arounds. Does NARIC provide something which can be helpful.

I also dont have any transcripts (from Univ of Mumbai) as such. Dont know if i can get them either. Will that make a difference!!

3. Past earnings. complicated but i score 15

I started on 19k for 6 months then got a raise of 1.5k for another 6 months and now have another 2k raise. So if I take past 12 month earnings wef from 1st june, id be over the 20k bracket.
Will it be worth highlighting this calculation in my covering letter???

4. UK experience 5 points.

what proof do I need to Give!!!
I am also thinking of providng my Offer letter, and contract and pay rise details, professional body associations and bank slips.

Help on this case would be appricaited. Id like to do this on my own without going thru a consultant. But in the end if required and no option is left then will succumb to the temptation!!!

Hi
Here is my answers:
1.Yes, your Licence will do, no need of notary or birth certificate.

2.No nee of NARIC for your Bachelors-- your UK masters will give you points.
N.B-- you must need a letter from mumbai univ for English requirement.NARIC cant help anything in this case. If you cant make a letter from Univ, IAM AFRAID YOU MUST HAVE to SIT for IELTS.(No toefl, only IELTS will do)
3.earnings are okay provided the p60 for avilable period and bankstatement/employer letter for the uncovered tax year.
4.UK experience--you have two options
a)get a letter from Home office about your student status in uk--follow hsmp guidance for exact requirement.
b)do nothing-- you will get points automatically if your claim for previous earnings are succeded.

Hope this help you

Thanks

Thanx, a lot! any other point of views??? Anyone have any experience on how to get the English language letter from these Big Univs like Mumbai? I get a feeling, that it will take ages to get this work done. Unles some1 has done this before and can give me a few tips. Being in the UK and not in Mumbai adds to the problem. Any suggestions!!!!

Do you have anyone in mumbai who can help you with this. If not then this is going to be very difficult. Better give IELTS.

I got my letter from university from bhopal and one of my college junior helped me.

I do have friends and family there. I am also on good terms with my college. SO here is my plan. I will request the college to give me two copies of a letter stating that I was a candidate, and the degree i was awarded etc etc etc ... everything i need in my univ letter. I will then use one copy of this letter to get those two forms from Mumbai uni filled and wait for that univ letter to come. Once i get the univ letter ill add it to my hsmp application.. And I will use the second copy of my college letter with my HSMP application as well. Just in case they are not happy with any details in the uni letter. I also will get my college guys to write down the contact details of the college registrar.

What does everyone think about this?? there is a chance of overkill by using two letters!!!

it is good to keep two letters. Decision on sending college letter can be made after seeing university letter.

Yeah I think the majority of the work for the application will be over once i get the letter from Mumbai Univ. The second task I have is to explain to the caseworker how ,y 12 month income qualifies for the 20k pa bracket. Its roughly as 19k for 4 months, 20.5k for 7 months and then 22.5 for 1 month. I dont know if they will get the maths right on this. As I will be claiming May06-June07 salary slips. Not exactly a perfect P60 period.

Maybe I'll make it really simple for them to understand. If everyone in this forum can understand it, I hope the case workers can too. I just get this feeling that I am missing something out!!!

any suggestions??? I have all my appraisal letters with me. and all my pay slips are standard univeristy issue!!

Name on Degree,
Hi guys, another thing I have notcied for my case is that my Graduate degree ie the one from mumbai has my name listed as
Farid RD Singh Singh

Where Farid is my first name and Singh is my last name and
RD Singh is my fathers name.

Where as my passing certificate from the University (also known as a Provisional degree) has Farid Singh RD Singh written on it. My 12th class certificates all have Name As Farid Singh and below that Fathers name as RD Singh.

Now my passport and all my other certificates have Farid SIngh as the listed name. Wondering if this will be an issue. Has anyone faced the similar problem with Mumbai Uni. I will highlight this in my covering letter but wondering if any one has had a rejection based on this!!!

As I am also getting my English language certificate from the UNI at mumbai, it will most probably have the same Farid RD Singh Singh written. Having said all this my MSc which is from the Uk and is my latest degree and my PhD registration are all under Farid SIngh.

Any Ideas!!!>???
