FLR on work permit, Any idea

At present i am on WP, and my WP visa is expiring in the end of july. My current employer is applying for new work permit on different contract soon.
But WP permission will take some time and have to apply for FLR before the expiry date of my visa. Could any body have idea that
1/ i would be covered till i get new WP from my employer
2 Can i continue my work with same employer while applying for WP.
OR Any other situation, please guide me.
