For another 90 days in the US

Hi I am currently visiting the US from Singapore and I've gotten a VW form that allows me to stay here for 90 days. However, I've decided to travel in the US longer so my plan is to go to Cancun, Mexico, and come back to the US so they will give me another 90 days. However, I'm not certain if they will give me a new stamp if I travel to Mexico for 10 days and come back because this was what I found through some Googling:

"The duration of short trips to Canada, Mexico or adjacent islands also count towards the maximum 90 days. So that means that you won't get another 90 days when you re-enter the US from Canada, but whatever is remaining (US visit and Canada visit combined will be deducted from the 90 days)."

I am not sure if this is true. If it is, I will probably change my trip and go to Costa Rica instead of Cancun (Mexico) just to be safe. Any ideas?

This information is correct. Even if you flew to Costa Rica, there is a good chance that they would refuse you admission, after such a short time away. If that happened you would never be able to use the VWP again.

From Costa Rica you can be granted another 90 day admission but it doesn't mean that you will be.

Immigration will get very upset if they think you're effectively living in the U.S. as a tourist.

Ok, I hope it goes smoothly with the immigration. I've changed my tickets to Guatemala instead.

I hope you are kidding... It makes no difference if you fly to Costa Rica or Guatemala. It's not the country you go to, it's the fact that you are openly flouting their immigration system by leaving and going back so soon. You may be lucky, or you may find yourself turned away and unable to use the VWP for life.

A good rule of thumb is to spend as much time outside the US as you have spent inside.
