I got HSMP in November 2005. Got an extension of 4 years in 2006. Now I have extension under HSMP up to November 2010. Can someone tell me about the new rules. For my point view, I will have to apply for an Indefinate stay in 2010. Anyone who completed his/her 5 years time could share their views that after 5 years, home office grants indefinate stay in UK. Which application form u should use and how much time they will take to grant indefinate stay.

Response! How we will get UK nationality under HSMP

I have HSMP visa up to 2010. Should I now switch to Tier 1 or in 2010. Should I apply for change in visa or I stay up to 2010 then apply for Tier 1 or apply for Indefinate stay. Any one who got Indefinate stay after spending 5 years under HSMP visa could share his/her views. My actual question is that when we will get British nationality as compare with Canadian and Australian. You will spend 2/3 years in Australia/Canada then you will apply for a Australian/Canadian nationality and you will get easily. What's about the UK nationality ???

According to rules as of today for UK citizenship,

1. You need to obtain ILR before applying nationality, So you would be eligible to apply for ILR in 2010 as per your existing HSMP.

2. Once ILR is obtained you need to wait for a year before applying citizenship, which in your case it would be 2011.

3. In any other circumstances, you need to apply FLR before you became eligible for ILR.

So no need to rush for nationality, Welcome to Britian...
