foreign citizen originally was an indian citizen

Hi,

I am in India for a year now and have just submitted my application for Indian citizenship under section 5f. Does any one know on average how long it takes for a person to get the Indian citizenship after application.

I am not applicable for OCI and intend to stay permanently in India and thus applying for the real Indian citizenship and will renounce my original citizenship then.

Why don't you apply for PIO? What's your existing citizenship? Depending on the country, you may not be able to get it back later on if you change your mind.

If you are a national of Pakistan or Bangladesh you might have a lot of trouble acquiring Indian citizenship.
If you are a citizen of other countries,you are eligible for OCI card or citizenship depending on how long you stay in India.
Anyone with any links to India though father or ancestor from the areas presently under Indian control is eligible for OCI and then citizenship.

What's your nationality at present and why are not eligible for OCI?
