Forgot an offence on ILR, now applying for BC

Post by AWJ2022 » Wed Jun 08, 2022 7:56 am

Hi all, hoping a senior/experienced member can help me here…

I was planning on applying for citizenship imminently and thought my biggest concern was gathering the right documents, but now worried I’ve fallen at the last hurdle.

When I applied for ILR I was obsessive about the application. I thought I’d covered/worried about everything, and got approved.

However now I’m doing my BC and going back through traffic history I’ve had an awful realisation - I completely forgot that I have a very old speeding/traffic conviction that resulted in a court fine from when I was young, newly driving and in my home country. I found the record for it last night using a background check service. It was so long ago, and not in the U.K., so it didn’t even enter my mind during ILR process even though it obviously should have.

Is there anything I can do? If I apply for BC and declare this, because it wasn’t on my ILR application am I risking refusal and also jeopardising my ILR retroactively??

Please help…I feel ruined about this.

Thanks in advance

Some questions have a specific time frame to which the question relates. If in doubt, then just declare it.

Hi Vinny, thanks for your reply. Should I declare and explain that I had forgotten about it for ILR? Surely they’ll check that application to see if I declared if there?
