Form UKM-Self Assessment Statement of Account Rqd?

Post by chapman » Wed Feb 11, 2015 2:10 am

I was born in the United States before 1983. My mother is a British Subject who married a GI in WWII - go figure :D

I looks as though I meet the specifications for Registration as a British citizen by a person born before 1983 to a British mother.

My question is about the UKM Guide document. In Section 2: Good Character it states:

"
Among the duties and obligations which you are expected to fulfil is payment of
income tax and National Insurance contributions. We may ask H.M. Revenue &
Customs for confirmation that your tax and National Insurance affairs are in order.
When you sign the application form you will be giving your consent for us to
approach them.
2.1 – 2.5 If you do not pay income tax through PAYE you must demonstrate that
you have discharged your obligations towards the H.M. Revenue &
Customs, by attaching a Self Assessment Statement of Account.
"

I reside in the US and have never lived in the UK other than as a child for 6 months while my father was in Vietnam.

1. Do I need to attach a Self Assessment Statement of Account?
2. If so, do you have any advice on how to accomplish this?
3. If not, is there any documentation required other than a copy of my Mother's Birth Certificate?

Kindest Regards!

1. I don't think you need to provide it.
3. Your passport and your birth certificate beside your mothers birth certificate.

Thank you for the timely response! If I don't have a US Passport are you suggesting that I get one to provide along with my Birth Certificate? I guess what I'm asking is - are two forms of identification required?

Thanks!

You need to provide valid identification along with your birth certificate.

Do you know if there is a list of accepted "valid identification?"

Thanks!

The only answer I can give is that European Union nationals can enter UK with valid ID card.
