Free ESOL Course (is it considered as benefit?)

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has any experience of the following:

My wife had done a free ESOL course when she arrived in UK in 2008. We were told the course was free at that time. Now I have contracted the college Now and they are saying its only free for people with ILR/Asylum etc..

Does it mean it is considered as Benefit and could have an impact on ILR?

No! The fact that for your wife the course was free at that point in time, and now the same course is not free, does not mean that a benefit was received.

Thanks For the quick reply John, My only concern was that my wife was new in the country at the time and didnt knew anything about benefits and its problems related to immigration etc and I was not present at the time of her admission. They did took photocopy of her visa. (which clearly states no resource to public funds) Hope this is ok.

Hi John,
could you tell do I qualified as home student for IELTS course? I am on 3 years DL at the moment.
I have asked 2 colleges but no reply.
