Asylum Interview

Post by cofmine » Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:59 pm

Hi everyone

I applied for asylum in September 2019 based on persecution due to my sexuality. I had screening interview in October 2019. I had my interview today and it only lasted for 2 hours and a half. I’m concerned that this is so different to everyone else’s. Does anyone know what the actual time frame is for a decision regarding this?

Thanks everyone

There is no standard time for interview, everyone's case is different. I actually know someone whose interview was about 3 hours and the person got granted asylum status.

My case is similar to yours, I applied for Asylum in September, did my screening interview in October, did substantive interview last Wednesday. My interview lasted for about three hours. I couldn't continue due to my health but I guess we finished. I was surprised that the substantive interview was quite early but many of my friends are assuring me that it is a good sign. Success depends on God's help and how solid your case is backed up with evidence.

Hi, don’t worry too much. I had mine for 4hours with loads of break. I know some are 8hrs. Yes every cases are different. We will all have our freedom soon.

There’s no specific time frame. As for myself I had my screening December 2018 I had my main interview 7 months after my screening August 2019, I am still waiting for my decision. Even my solicitor can’t tell how long is the wait time nor my support worker. Although cases are different. I know some hasn’t had their substantive interview for over a year and others are 2 years. Fingers crossed for all of us

Hi Jay,

Why did you need a support worker and how did you get one. What is the role of the support worker?
