Hi all,
I hope you can help. My partner has lived in the UK since 1999 and obtained ILR in 2004 as my unmarried partner. He has a stamp in his passport to show this. He worked in the UK from 2004 until 2018 but then took some time off but is now looking to get back into work. He called a couple of recruiters who have said that he needs a BRP, this is something we have never heard of in the past.
We have filled in the application and paid the fee and it is now offering us time slots to get his fingerprints done etc. However it also says that he needs to bring "proof of address" but there is no information as to what they need - would they be happy with his UK drivers license?
The bigger question though is around "evidence to prove your continuous residency in the UK....". It seems to be asking for some kind of evidence for every year he has been here since being a permanent resident (does this mean when he obtained ILR?). So are they really asking for him to bring in documentation to cover every year since 2004??! This is pretty much impossible as we haven't kept nearly 20 years of documentation.
We phoned the Home Office and their "commercial partner" and neither had a clue.
I assumed that getting the BRP would be straightforward seeing as he worked in the UK for 15 years, paid tax and NI, part owns a house, has bank account, credit cards etc... Can anyone help?
Thanks
