@LozOz
I came across this https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _11-14.pdf in which it says
To allow for any processing delays, you should apply at least 8 weeks before the end of your
permitted stay in the UK.
.. so going by this it looks like its long overdue, so I hope you do get it soon and update us hyperventilating folks.

@BethS
Did you apply using the Premium service? if yes, then it usually takes about 7- 10 days for the BRP to come. At least you didn't have to send out your passport :)

@Namkie90

Ta for the website link but it wouldn't open for me :( it says in that quote though that 'you should apply at least 8 weeks before your stay in the UK is due to end' ...I should have mentioned that I already have ILR status.

That's also why I'm not sure why it's taking so long :( it's really a simple name change from maiden to married name. The process is so draining and of course frustrating. I still haven't called them yet but will try before end of week.

Any news on your biometrics letter?

Good luck all x

oh okay. nope..no biometric letter yet ... I really wish there was an online tracking system that at least gave applicants an estimate or let us know if something was wrong.I wanted to ask, has it been 56 days from the day you submitted your biometric or from the date you sent out the application? Is the post office mentioned in letter close to where you stay?

@namkie90

I know, I really wish there was someway we could check on progress. It's been almost 12 weeks from the day I did my fingerprints at the post office so 14 if you include when I sent off my application.

So my letter has my case reference number on it. It advises you will have 15 days from the date of the letter to have your biometrics taken or your application may be rejected or invalid. It says to visit www.postoffice.co.uk/ukbabiometric for the location of your nearest branch that will offer the biometric service and you do not need an appointment.

You need to pay £19.20 to the post office for the service (because I haven't paid enough right? ) and you need to take the back page of the letter which has a barcode and relevant details on it.

It says that they will decide on my application within 6 months from the date I submitted (oh there's that answer) unless for the named reasons included in the letter.

I hope this info helps a little in the meantime. Hoping that your letter comes soon!

@Namkie90 Yes I did the premium application. It's been 14 working days and no sign of the BRP. Have emailed them for follow up but no response yet.

I wonder if there is some sort of back log with card printing?

Update *

So I called UKVI (0300 123 2241)
You won't actually be able to speak to anyone unless you press the option for "applications not received and itspast the 6 months time frame"

They can't give an ounce of info or update on progress. I gave my case reference number and she confirmed my application was there but that's it! Great service hey.

So I just have to hope it comes in time so I can see my family at Christmas time and for my mum to meet her grandbabies!

Good luck to everyone else waiting, the system is awful. I'll update once it arrives! X

@LozOz
Thanks so much for the info and for updating
@bethS
if you have proof that your BRP was approved I think that should suffice for your new employer and you can start work. Then once you get the actual card you can show it , hope this helps.

Hey @bethS

It's horrible :( sorry that your employer won't let you work without the card. I've had issues like that before too. The home office say it's fine but employers want to see docs and that you are legit! I don't know if this info helps but it does say in my letter:

"Issue 7 permission to work:
Can I work while me application is being considered?
You are entitled to continue to work in the UK if the conditions attached to your previous grant of leave allowed you to work and your settlement application was made whilst you still had valid leave."

Hi Lozoz/Namkie,

Have you able to receive BRP (RC), I have been waiting for around four months now.

So much painful, after losing this card. It seems I need to wait for good enough time for issuing a replacement card.

Regards,
Infosri :cry:

@Infosri, sorry I have no clue what is happening :( actually they don't need our passport forever for this they might as well send at least that back and then decide the application based on supporting documents . I think only one person here got their application within 2 months

In my case, I have submit passport. The thing is I tried to get the passport back,but have to submit on the next day itself, HO mentioned me send in 28 days otherwise, it seems the y won't consider application. This is really a terrible to wait for no good reason.

thing is, if you ask for your passport back, you can submit the request online. It will be treated as a withdrawn application ; you won't get your 223 pounds back. you should get it within 2 working weeks according to their guideline. but sit tight and wait for your biometric letter if it is needed.. if that takes too much time then consider withdrawing... just my suggestion.
I really really wish they had an online tracker or messaging service.

Oh sorry I misunderstood. Did you get the biometric letter a month after you sent application ?

Hi @INFOSRI

Sorry to hear you have also waited a long time. I feel your pain! I have no good news as yet, I'm still waiting too and as of today it's been 15 weeks since I sent off my application (13 from biometrics taken)

I will update when I have some more positive news. Good luck to all

Hi,
My wife was just about to change the name on her brp having just received her new passport (with name changed after marriage) Looking at the people's experiences of processing times though i'm now thinking twice as she's planning to go back home for a visit in January and it sounds like it will be pushing it to get the new brp in time.

Her old passport is still valid until next March however and im wondering if there would be any issue in using her old passport? We would then change the name on brp when she gets back (will still be notifying them within 3 months so no problem there) If anyone knows, would be much appreciated.

Hi @Syer

I flew to Florida with my passport still in my maiden name at the time which matched my BRP. I flew several times on my maiden name passport. I was married in Aug 2012 and only changed my passport recently to reflect the married name in May 2016. Should be completely fine to travel on maiden name passport.

I would definatley advise to wait until after your wife gets back as I'm almost on 4 months waiting now and nothing! Not worth the stress.

Hope that helps!

Thanks LozOz,

wow 4 months, not good hope it comes soon. The only difference with my wife's situation is that she does now have a passport reflecting her married name. So i was just a bit concerned as to whether the old passport can still be used or if it would be flagged up as no longer valid somehow despite it not yet having reached the expiry date.

@Syer

Ah I see, I would in this case say then maybe not because the new updated passport will have cancelled out the old even though there was time remaining on it. I would assume this because they would not allow one person to have 2 valid passports in different names unless they were different country passports? (I could be wrong)

I have read that if you do not change/update your BRP to reflect the new name within 3 months of the change then you could be fined £1000 :/

Although it makes it extremely difficult for anyone to travel or move about while the new BRP is getting processed. I myself thought I had left plenty of time for the processing because I wanted see my mum at Christmas but with Christmas coming I don't think it's likely. :(

I hope your wife's BRP gets processed more quickly than mine!

Ah, well fingers crossed. still time before xmas
I kinda assumed the same, just wondered if she'd get away with it as they haven't physically invalidated it by clipping the corner or punching a hole in it like they have with my old passports before. Probably not worth the risk though. Neither is the £1000 fine, £223 to change a name is bad enough!
