ILR - New Address

Post by Nickj » Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:04 am

Hello there,
I have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK and I am going to move from my old address to a new address. Do I have to inform Home Office or update my BRP card details after I changed my address, even I am a settled person with ILR in the UK?

Thank you...

No, there is no requirement for that except if there are correspondences or documents you are expecting that may necessitate update of address to prevent missing it in the post.

Only few changes are needed to report

Do you know where it states that there is no requirement even if you're not expecting and correspondence? When you go to https://www.gov.uk/change-circumstances-visa-brp there is a section "Report a change of address only", click on "have a valid BRP" and you're presented with a form to fill out (https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... s-form-mcc).

In this form, the second page has the sentence "The applicant must inform UK Visas and
Immigration of any changes to the following"... and "•contact details" is listed. When you go to the "Contact details" section on page 3, you're then presented with "Address change: Provide the previous and the new address in full including the postcode".

So I'm also slightly confused as to whether this is required or not? I can't find anything explicitly that says, if you're not waiting on anything, you don't need to inform. But they do say, if your contact details have changed, then you must inform them. Anyone able to shed some more light?

Edit: I found this link, not sure if this is relevant: https://eforms.homeoffice.gov.uk/outrea ... pdate.ofml

The form you quote in the second link relates ONLY to those on PBS visas as it clearly states and NOT ILR!!

I can not point you to a specific document that states you do not need to, some of the things you go along with and update on need to know or as events unfold, if you feel strongly on reporting your change of address, do go ahead. I do know for a fact that when you are in contact with HO and they need to know about any previous address the form will ask.

This was the link they include on the BRP page (previous link to that). I was confused when it redirected me to a PBS form though, thanks for clarifying.

I just wanted to double check that you don't have to update the address if you don't have any dealings with them currently. Just worried with the lack of clarity (from them) and this coming back to bite you with a fine or something at later date. I guess you're right about the previous address questions in future applications though, thanks!
