Hi Everyone

I attended my appointment at the UKVCAS - Sopra Steria today at 12pm. I went for SET (LR) super premium.

Below is what happened. I arrived an hour early to my appointment.

1. I got ID checked by one of the Sopra steria staff (looked at the QR code/reference number on the appointment confirmation and then checked my passport - photo ID)

2. I was given a printed handout "How to do Biometric yourself" and a token number. I was asked to wait until called for checking-in. They had few chairs to sit and they was a water dispenser.

3. I was called to one of the agents after almost an hour (as they even didn't know what they are doing as today was the first day at the Birmingham Centre) for Official Check-in -again using the QR code and Passport. Once this was done, I was asked to wait to be enrolled for Biometric.

4. I was then called for registering my biometric. The UKVI has installed a kit where you do them all by yourself. It is pretty self-explanatory. I did this and waited for document checks

5. I was then called for document check. Again they asked my Appointment reference number and Passport. After that the Sopra Steria staff kept looking at her screen for almost 15 - 20 minutes saying she is looking at my documents. I heard/saw a lot of mouse clicks (may be she was clicking document approved). After that she said, all documents are fine.

6. I double checked her that if everything okay: because they the person didn't even look at my other originals that I carried with me. Not even a single document (apart from the passport). She said it is all good and that I have included necessary documents (dont know how she knew it).

7. I was told I will get the decision in 24 hrs from submission (round the clock). Its 7pm now an dI am yet to hear. I was told I will be contacted by either my contact number or through the email.

8. Once all done, I left the centre. It took around 2.5 hrs for me (may be because I arrived early and the staffs were not very clear on some things).

9. I will update here once I hear a decision from UKVI.

All the best everyone.

Hi, i also have a question about calculating 540 days. When you did, did you calculate departure date and arrival date? For example, if I left the UK on 01/01/2018 to Spain and returned on 03/01/2018, does it count as 3 days absent or 1 day? Im not sure if it is only full day thats outside of UK count or is it include half days?
Thank you !

Thanks for this detail! Did you have to get the appointment after booking a the premium service slot at https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/next please? If so, how did you get the appointment please? It is getting increasingly frustrating as I cannot seem to get a date... please help. any tip will be useful. I have checked at midnight, 12pm and 3pm daily but without luck...
Hi, you need to fill in online application and pay first. Then you will be directed to another website (the appointment centre), then you can book your appointment on that website. Everything is under the new system now, you cannot get any appointment from the old premium centre. Hope that helps.

Hi Josh

I had the option of buying the document checking service. Maybe because you are going to enhanced centre, its probably included in that.
Hi, yeah I called them today and said I will take all my documents to my appointment for check. Did you book super premium as well or just normal ones? I booked super premium and hope I can get a result within 24 hours. But I don't know if the new system is efficient yet.
Josh and winshee, I am following your thread in very carefully! I think you two are the first of many going through with the new appointment process. I look forward to hearing back from Winshee today / tomorrow about your appointment and whether they indeed give you next day decision. I would hope that because we are paying the extra £610 they would not make us wait any longer than 24 hours! Hope all went well today.
Josh, when are you going for yours? And you too will be expediting it?
My last question is in regards to the 28th day qualifying period. Does anyone know how much in advance we can start the online process? In other words, is the date of the online submission and payment that HO considers? Or is it the date that you attend appointment at the service center? There appears to be many difference of opinion on this forum. If my 28 day qualifying period Starts on December 17, do I submit only as of this date? I appreciate your advice
hi, my appointment is on thursday and i paid for super priority as well. So i will let you know how it goes. Also about 28 days, i think you have to wait till 28 days before u meet the requirement then submit the documents. I think application submission date is the date they count.
Hi Josh, thank you very much for the info. As for your appointment this Thursday, best of luck. I think you said you would be attending the Liverpool location? I will either choose Liverpool or Manchester ..I know manchester is a “core center” whatever that means! But ideally I would like the agent to review my documents AND scan what is needed...I know you were having uploading issues yourself...and as I don’t have a scanner available at home, I would need to go to the library and use their scanner, but foresee issues with that! I don’t mind paying extra at my priority appt, but not sure if the core centers or Liverpool will help with this. I think it’s only the London premium lounge that offers everything from checking and scanning. Anyway, if you happen to have time to confirm in Liverpool on Thursday..only if you’re not stressing too much on the appointment of course, I would be so grateful. Either way, I look forward to hearing about your experience😊

Hi winshee18,
I hope, you will get good news tomorrow. I have a question for you related to the documents upload. you did upload documents yourself. when you submitting or upload documents I meant during online submitting application or upload all documents in the Birmingham UK VACS center. further which format to upload documents. I have 10 documents. So i need to upload each documents individually or create one pfd file.

Regards,

Hi Sohailgani

I uploaded the doc myself. I think this is better, if you missed to upload something, I was told you can do this during your appointment or after your appointment (may be you need to be quick).

You can upload individual documents. There are sub sections such as Proof of Employment; travel history; Business; Life events; Education etc. so you can upload them individually. In cases were you have like a 4 or 5 pay slips, I thinks its better to collate them as one document saying Pay slips and upload them as one. You can upload Pdf or image file. I preferred pdf as they are better to collate several documents. Also in each section you can upload multiple documents. For example: in proof of employment I uploaded a letter from my employer and my payslip as another file. The maximum file size is 6 Mb/doc (not for all doc).

Best

It is counted as 1 say. You can exclude the day you went out and the day you entered. Thats what the guideline says.

You need to leave out the day you departed and the day you arrived. Doing so, I will put it down as 1 day

Hi Oscar

I think you have been using the old system. With the new system, you fill in the application and as you proceed it will ask you whether you wanted to do the new service or the old one. I dont think they have many free appointments as they are closing it down. So select the new service and as you do that it will ask you to pay. You then continue to pay and then you will get a confirmation page with a green click button on the screen to book your appointment. when you do this, you will be taken to the Sopra Steria webpage where you create an account and follow the steps for booking an appointment.

Hi, thank you :) liverpool one is an enhanced appointment centre, so document checking and scanning are included. I called them and they fixed my issue so now i can upload documents online. However, i will still go to my appointment and ask them to double check with my document. Im very sure manchester one doesnt include any extra services that is why it is free.

Thank you !
You need to leave out the day you departed and the day you arrived. Doing so, I will put it down as 1 day

Hi, thank you very much for your response. So far, i didnt count my departure date and arrival date, however I couldn't find anywhere on the guideline that says this information. If I do not count departure date and arrive date, im 521 days absent from the UK. however, if i count them i will be 560 days. So i need to be very sure if they do count or not. If you know where on guideline that shows this could you let me know please ? Appreciate your help !

Hi SOhail

If they didnt ask you for mandatory documents, then you may do the following

Life in UK - Education
Passport - Identity/travel doc
Biometric - Identity/travel doc
Employer from - EMployment section
P60 - in Finances/employment section
Bank statement - in Finances. Dont put individual file, collate all the pdf into a single file - easy for them to download and review your application.

The most important thing is you need to documents in a way that reduces/makes the case worker life easy.
I think its okay to download statements online, but I would get them stamped by the bank - just incase.

Hi Josh thank you for confirming. I will definitely go to Liverpool then for my appointment. Fingers crossed they can help me upload. Hope you get the service you need when you get there tomorrow. I look forward to hearing about it after you finish. Best of luck!!!

Sorry Josh just one last question if you don’t mind. Regarding the checking and scanning at the appointment, did you pay extra for this when you paid for the appointment (was it an “add on”) or part of the price for the Liverpool appointment. I’m sure it will be more clear once I start the process online... thank you!

Hi,

Had an appointment yesterday, finished by 11 am, gone through the exact steps detailed by Winshee18, and also was told w/in 24 hrs, but still silence. I assume this delay is due to the system being new and high number of applications submitted through it. It’s about 6pm, & now I think it’s highly impossible we’ll be contacted today :(

Hi Winshee18,

I have also attended the same centre-Birmingham on the same day and my appointment was 8.30am. I had a similar experience to yours and I have added some comments to your post:

I went for SET (LR) super premium ( super priority) paying £3018 and also paid £100 for the appointment.

Below is what happened. I arrived 5 minutes early and was welcomes by a staff member-nice reception!

Apart from that reception, everything else was a mess!!

1. I got ID checked by one of the Sopra steria staff (looked at the QR code/reference number on the appointment confirmation and then checked my passport - photo ID) - This was the first step.

2. I was given a printed handout "How to do Biometric yourself" and a token number. I was asked to go to the kiosk for entering biometric.

3. The staff were saying that this is their first day and you are our first customer, anyway I tried scan the QR code on the machine however nothing was displayed on the screen and staff keeps on saying try again despite my request to check if machine is turned on and ready! Few minutes later staff realised the display was not powered - any way I scanned QR code followed b passport and enter biometrics as per the instruction. Very straightforward and easy to follow instructions.

4. I did this and waited for document checks.

5. I was then called for document check. Again they asked my Appointment reference number and Passport. After that the Sopra Steria staff kept looking at the screen clearly confused what to do or how to do. I had uploaded most of the documents however they had to check passports and scan each page. This took almost 30-40 minutes to complete as he was not sure how to do it and was dong it for the first time.

6. After an hour, we were still on scanning and clicking stage- and the case worker asked if you have done your biometric. He was not able to see biometric details completed so I had to do biometric again. As I went back after biometric another person- who seems like Manager was behind the case worker as he was struggling to upload documents and submit application. They then said it looks like we need to do it all again - so he started scanning all documents again -another 40 minutes.

7. Finally, this process was completed around 11am- then the case worker tried to submit the biometric and scanned documents following guidance from his manager - several minutes waiting and still processing. They asked me to wait in the waiting area.

8. I asked for a confirmation however the case worker unable to provide actually don't know if there is anything like a confirmation. There was a Home Office staff and I spoke to this staff about my experience.

9. 11.04am I received an email from Home Office confirming application received, however the email advised me that it may take upto six months for processing the application. I showed this to the Home Office staff to make sure they have submitted it as a super priority with 24 hour decision not as standard. The staff member checked it on the system and said this message is a standard message send by HOme Office and few other people have also received the same on the previous day.

10. I was told I will get the decision in 24 hrs from submission (round the clock). I was told I will be informed by an email and the UKVI case worker will contact in case if they need any further information. Also told me it can be in the next hour as there was some submitted their application the previous day and received an outcome within an hour!!

11. Once all done, I left the centre. It took around 3 hrs for me

12. 24 hour gone today -no update from UKVI and I contacted the UKVI and Sopra Steria

13. UKVI said we are unable check anything.

14: Sopra Steria- Please contact UKVI.

15. Sopra Steria website account remains open and uploading function still open today. When I mentioned this during my phone conversation with Sopra Steria customer service, they wanted to check with a manger and after a while told me that there is an automatic cut off time 2200 hours.

16. 24 hours and next day( as Home office closes 5pm) passed -without any outcome!

Winshee18_ Very good description and thank you for your time to share this experience.
