Passport expiry and Visa Validity

Post by letterbox7380 » Sun Mar 24, 2024 5:18 pm

I am an Indian Citizen and I am currently in the UK on a skilled work visa.

My Indian passport is expiring by the end of May. Although I have already applied to renew my passport, it appears that the processing time is currently high and the renewal process won’t be completed before my current passport expires. In effect, there will be at least a few weeks without a valid passport.

I’m wondering if not having a valid passport between the current passport expiry and the issuance of the new passport will affect my current visa or when I apply for an extension or ILR.

I wasn't thinking this would be a problem until I read this here: https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control/be ... ur%20stay.
You must have a valid passport to enter the UK. It should be valid for the whole of your stay.
Other details: My Visa and BRP is valid until October. I am not planning to travel out of the UK any time soon.

Many thanks in advance!

The statement you quoted relates to visitors only.
You are a resident and visa holder and your passport has to be valid on entry to the UK.
The fact it may expire the following week doesn't invalidate your visa.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
