VISA restrictions

Post by Brat » Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:56 pm

One of my family member is on visitor visa here in UK for about six months. Are there any restrictions in extending VISA

1. Is it possible to extend here in UK
2. If that is not possible, is it possible to apply for a new VISA from the country she comes from once after she goes back.

Regards,
Brat.

Using your numbering :-
  1. No, except in exceptional circumstances such as serious illness preventing the person from leaving.
  2. What sort of new visa might she be requiring? It might well be possible, but more details please.
For example, if she is currently here on a visitor's visa and now wants to get a fiancée visa, she should indeed return to her country and apply for the fiancée visa there.

I think UK immigration takes a dim view of recurring visitor visas, they are for visits, not mid/long term residence.

Brat, what is intended? That is, how long after she gets back to her country would she be applying for another visitor's visa?

If you answer is ... almost immediately .... then as Wanderer says, "UK immigration takes a dim view of recurring visitor visas".

The longer the length of time between her getting back and the new application the more chance of success. But as always with visitor visa applications, the ECO needs to see a genuine "reason to return" back from the UK. So nothing is ever guaranteed in these matters.

Can I ask, what country are we talking about here?
