working holidaymaker visa

Post by aluckraz » Wed Jul 28, 2004 4:23 pm

Dear administrator/moderator,
i have a question about the working holidaymaker visa- are holiday and travel plans restricted to the UK or can you go to europe, etc. How elaborate must be your travel plans? If some relative is happy to provide me lodging and my personal expenses, how much funds i am required to show?

thanks in advance

ash

Working holiday maker is a particular visa/status granted by the U.K. government; it does not concern other countries at all. Not being a citizen of the EU, you wouldn't directly benefit from the fact that UK is a member - if you need to travel to any other country, you'd need to sort this with their respective governments.

hi moderator,
i think u misunderstood my question. Since the working holidaymaker visa requires you to take some holidays during my 2 yr stay, my question was: when asked in an interview by an immigration officer (in my country) what are holiday plans, should i restrict my answer to places in the UK or can i include other countries( although i will need visas)
also, you did not answer my question on what funds i am required to show if i have some relative willing to provide me lodging and personal expenses in the uk

thanks again
ash

Aluckraz.....which nationality are you and where are you gonna apply from.....

Successful WHV tend to be for those 'historical' commonwealth countries such as Oz, Canada, Kiwi, SouthAfrica....

The main issue ECO will need to be satisfied with is 'Returnability' at the end of your 'holiday'

Moderators are volunteers - so watch what you say and how you say it. :!:

If you have strong economic /socail and financial ties with Mauritius and can prove that you will return to a job there then you will be OK

dear administrator,
i am sorry if i have been rude to you , though it was not my intention. could u elaborate on your social/economic ties with mauritius. i am a mauritian and just completed my undergrad studies in the uk- i was intending to take a gap yr using the workingholidaymaker visa.Since the working holidaymaker visa requires you to take some holidays during my 2 yr stay, my question was: when asked in an interview by an immigration officer (in my country) what are holiday plans, should i restrict my answer to places in the UK or can i include other countries( although i will need visas)

Aluckraz - don't take it personally. This Board is not staffed by experts, but exists based on volunteer efforts of moderators and other members. There is no guarantee every single question will be answered, let alone the answer being prompt and correct.

Whenever someone who knows the answer gets to your question (which is, when they have time), they will respond. Even then, their response doesn't carry any official weight.

Please be patient and stand by.

Aluckraz,

IMHO you dont fit the category of a WHVM and you cannot switch in country. You have just finished your undergrad studies in the UK - so presumably you had time during the holidays to travel around the UK....

...if you want to visit more parts of the UK that you never manged to visit during your studies - then you can apply for a couple of months extension to your student visa such that you can have a Holiday...

..In essence what you want to do is basically work using a WHV. It is unlikely that you will get the WHV when you go back back home after your studies and apply for the WHV at the embassy.

You have to show stron economic/social and financial ties with Mauritius to ensure that you will go back after your holiday..

e.g)

a)you need to have a well established Job back home - and you should have been employed with that company for a while and earning good money

b) you need to have property/investments in Mauritius which in theory shoul 'pull you back' when you have finished your holiday...

So as you can see from above there is NO chance for a WHV

If you wanna legally stay in the UK, try to get a workpermit or 'advance' your studies

Good Luck

aluckraz,

My fellow moderators have covered all the pertinent grounds relating to your query. I echo the same and state that IMHO your chances of getting a WHM visa are very slim if any at all based on the fact that you have been in the UK for some time and to all intents and purposes have no/ minimal socio-economic ties to Mauritius.

Were you to go ahead you need to demonstrate that you have enough funds to at least see you through three months. Anectodal experience from people who I know obtained WHM visas say the visa officer looks at around you having 2,000GBP in funds.

In relation to the visiting Europe query the WHM is meant for you to take an extended holiday in the UK. However I doubt whether the Entry Clearance Officer will base a decision on this particular issue so IMHO it is not a major concern whether you mention it or not. It is a benefit however that you detail your travel plans to the extent available.

Hope that helps.
