german citizen, brother not, what can I do for him?

Post by Pars » Sat Aug 11, 2007 11:00 pm

Hi, this is a great site with great information shared by everyone... Situation is that brother was born before 1975 to our german mother. Can I apply for permanent residence for my brother, or some other status so we can be together???

Apply for PR for him? No you cannot do so.
What you can do, instead, is answer the following questions to shed some more light on your situation, since 2-3 lines won't suffice.
1.Where is your brother now, and nationality?
2. Are you (and your mother) German citizens?
3. Have you checked anything about German nationality laws? If so, what do you know thus far? So that we can explain things in detail.

But, look here:

Was his father a German national, or any other European nationality?

Hi, you're right, sakura, i was too brief...

1. Mexico, Mexican, born 1972
2. Yes, my mother and myself are German citizens, grandparents on mother side are german (passed away), father is Mexican.
3. I've checked what is on the internet and talked to a consulate and it's clear that he doesn't 'inherit' the german citizenship as I have. But I want to think that there are options other than citizenship that people would like to share. Do you know of any viable, thanks for your time...

He is 35? Is he married, have kids, etc? I don't know about whether or not they might have any special rights, you should check the German nationality laws and see if they say anything about people born just before 1975.

Might be good to look through the rules: http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en ... rnInD.html
