German Visa Clarification

Post by mandiri » Mon Jul 20, 2015 3:47 pm

Hi

Would really appreciate if someone can help in this matter.

I am a German citizen married to a non-EU citizen and living in Asia.

My wife had applied for a Schengen Visa at the German Embassy and was granted a 2 years visa with remarks Familienangehoeriger eines Unionbuergers.

She got a new passport recently and had to reapply for the visa at the German Embassy. This time though the visa is valid for 5 years the remarks on the visa have changed to Besuchs-/Geschaeftsvisum.

I am unable to make out the difference. Has her status been promoted or demoted. Should we contact the German Embassy that they have made a mistake?

Please help as we need to travel urgently.

The first visa was a mistake. The EU directive 2004/38 is not valid in the home country of the eu citizen and therefore also not valid for the family member. The german embassy shouldn't have issued it.
The second one is the right one from the german embassy in your case.
