German visa by post for EU family members

If you are a spouse of an EU or German national, or if you have had a Schengen visa from the German Embassy London issued within the past 12 months, you may apply by post. In addition to the required documents please add a self-addressed "Special Delivery" envelope and the visa fee in postal orders. (There is no visa fee for spouses of EU or German nationals.) Please be aware that application by post can take eight working days.

This is a great reason to plan your holidays for Germany. Good food, wonderful places to visit, and less hassle.

Agreed!

Oddly, my gf just got a Germany Schengen - we applied formally but she had had a Germany Work permit which is a Schengen visa for other States too, we wondered if that would count for a postal application.

In the end we couldn't risk it due to timescales - but I still wonder!

Ok, forgive my limited (or shall we say, non-existent) knowledge of Deutsche cuisine. I'm sure there's more than würste and sauerkraut in German cook books.. isn't there?

I must admit when my gf was in Germany and I visited her first time - we scoured the Hamburg Guide for restaurants and she spotted a 'German Restaurant' on Wandsbeker Allee, when we got there not only was it closed, but it was a Turkish Kebab shop.....

Ended up in an Italian place not far away - very nice!

In Berlin we found an Italian too (German run) in Wedding - remains our favourite place.

Germans do good food, just none of it their own....

No time like the present to increase your exposure to German food by spending time in the foothills of the Alps...

For example, http://www.broeding.de/ in München is an amazing restaurant!

I shall have to remember that Mike. Never been to Germany before, as it goes (I won't count an airport transit in Frankfurt). But some friends of ours are due to be transferred there soon, so we might be paying them a visit..

Of course the German Embassy in Dublin haven't implemented this

Absolutely! And the fantastic beers! As for the food, Schweinhaxen (knuckle of pork), Obatza, Fresh Brezn, Schweinelendchen, Various Wurst (my faves=Rotwurst and Bratwurst), Blackforest Ham, Spanpferkel (suckling pig), Kaiserschmarn (delicious desert of pancake strips with nuts & sugar) ... yummm I'm getting hungry now

This group clearly needs some get togethers in various locals throughout Europe!
