Getting chartered chemical engineer status

Post by baskey » Fri Dec 03, 2004 11:38 am

Dear Kayalami and other Chemical Engineers,

I am HSMP holder and a chemical engineer. I am presently working as Process Engineer, I would like to apply for Chartered Chemical status with Institution of chemical Engineers, UK.

I want to know about the application procedure. As such i don't know any chemical engineers in the UK.

Could any one of you please help me or share your ideas in this regard if you are familiar with it. I know this is very vague question but i just started peeping into it.

Many thanks in advance.

regards

Info on Chartered engineer

Post by paresh1 » Sat Dec 04, 2004 12:31 pm

Hi Baskey,
You will get a detailed information about this on following website:
www.icheme.org.
By the way, could you pl. give your opinion on the advantages of becoming the member.
I am also a Chemical Engineer and currently looking for a job as process engineer. How is the job situation currently in the UK and what all skills are looked into by the interviewrs. Currently I am not having HSMP but wondering whether HSMP route is better or try to convince employers for work permit.

hi paresh,

CHartered staus is better as many advts. specifically ask for it. I also know ichem.org in Uk but needs some reference from existing members, that is why i have asked whether any chemical engineers are there in this forum.

Regarding your question abt work permit, it is quite hard almost impossible to find a employer who is willing to apply for work permit for chemical engineer. Even with keeping HSMp, it took for me 4 months to find a suitable job. but again u could try ur luck.
