Getting married to a person with ILR

Hi all,

I am a Singaporean citizen and my boyfriend has indefinite leave to remain (PR) since late September 2010.
We are thinking of getting married, however would I be able to start work immediately? Can I come to the UK to get married?
We are more concerned of the fact that I would have to wait for a long time before I can start working to support myself. I read that for 6 months I am not able to work, is this true?
What other procedures do we have to go through?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

You can come to the UK as a fiancee ( providing you have met your fiance) and once you have got married and succesfully applied for your FLR, you can start to work immediately.

You can not work till you get married and have applied for FLR. Th esooner you do this after arrival the quicker you can start to work.

In order to come to UK as a fiancee you will have had to met your fiance. he must be able to prove that he can support ,maintain and accommodate you here in UK. This will mean that he has to be working with a steady income,have some savings and enough room in his house /flat to accomodate you.

Alternatively, if you marry outside the UK (e.g. - in Singapore) then you may apply for spouse visa (after getting married). No restriction on employment on spouse visa.

Thanks both, its quite straightforward as it sounds.

It seems to me that its much faster getting married in Singapore then coming over with a Spouse Visa, then first trying to obtain a fiancee visa, registering then applying again for FLR to work?

So with the spouse visa once its obtained I suppose once I arrive I can start working?

Sorry I have 1 more question.
Both options, i.e marrying in Singapore or the UK, is both fine, however what are the waiting times for each of them, as my priority is to find work as soon as possible?

marrying in the UK means I would have to apply for the fiancee visa first, then the FLR after marriage, thats 2 waiting periods ( excluding waiting to get registered), but marrying in singapore would mean just applying for the spouse visa, as so it seems. Which option would be faster? I can't find waiting times posted by other members for the spouse visa and any information would be really a great help.

UKBA doesn't publish procesing times for in-country (leave to remain as spouse) applications, but you can look at statistical information for out-country settlement (fiancee / spouse etc.) visa application processing times here.
