has anyone actually entered uk without EEA permit

By UK national law,i am supposed to get an EEA family permit for my Russian wife,for a visit to the UK.Iam a British. However,as we reside in Sweden, we want to enter under EU Directive,excercising treaty rights. From research,i understand under EU law this is possible. My wife is VERY reluctant.
Has anybody entered the UK,without an EEA family permit, entering under the Directive of EU,and having just passports and proof or relationship?
I have been searching the web for 3 days,and although i know EU law is on my side, to have an example as eveidence to a IO, would possibly make things easier. Many thanks.

Take a printout of regulation 11.Right of admission to the United Kingdom with you while travelling to the UK, as well as a copy of your marriage certificate. Now that Directive 2004/38 is in force for almost five years, IO's slowly are getting more aware of its implications. On arrival use the line for EU passports.

I did the equivalent in opposite direction (going with my foreign wife from the UK where we reside to my country of origin in the Schengen zone) some years ago. The first time it took two hours before they let us through; the second time it was outright funny: the IO on duty didn't know what to do, phoned a colleague for help, this colleague arrived, looked at us and said: Yes, it's OK. I know these people! A few months ago I wrote an extensive report on them. It's very complicated but it's OK. Let them pass!

Almost all Schengen states appear to accept that fact now, at least when going by the official embassy web pages.

thanks for the positive reply. Yes my wife has resident status due to family member of an EU citizen. We had to fight somewhat to get this, but quoting EU law to the Migrationsverket sorted it out eventually. My wife has at least no problems entering Sweden now from Russia without a visa.

Now we just need to push our EU rights on the UKBA.
