Have I filled out the wrong referee declaration forms?

Hi,

I'm applying for UK citizenship. I have completed the online application.
Pre-application, to ensure I had gathered all the detailed correctly, I filled out form AN, the postal version, before doing it online.

When I was looking for the referee declaration forms online, I saw there were two, the form AN declaration, and the form MN1 declaration. On the form MN1, any reference to MN1 online seems to be for under 18s, so I chose to use the AN form.

However, now I have submitted the application, the downloadable referee forms are MN1. Do I need to get the referees to re-sign this form instead? The only reason I am asking is because they live quite far from me now. I want to understand this before I book the biometric appointment because I don't know when I will be able to go and visit them if I do need to get the forms re-signed, or if there is another way of doing it. Someone said their referees could sign digitally, but I couldn't find any reference to that online.

Not sure what downloadable form you are referring to - perhaps you can share the link?
However, even if you used the "wrong" form, as long as your referees are complying with the requirements for referees then there isn't an issue, and UKVI will know your age of course. The only difference between AN and MN1 referees is that for children the professional referee should have been involved in the child's life (e.g. teacher, nurse, doctor or similar). You won't be penalised for this - if they have an issue with it they'll contact you.

I didn't use MN1 because when I googled it, MN1 came up as the child's application. But it looks like that is actually used for both AN and MN1 applications.


Just to be clear, I filled in the printed version of AN to ensure I had collected all the necessary information, I was always planning to submit the application online.

The link for the referee form is ok - commonly used and recommended.
Can be used for both children and adults. The form refers to adults and children.
So you are on the right route.
